Cintas Corporation and Visa International Asia Pacific Receive Borland “Customer of the Year” Awards

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Nov 15, 2005 : Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ NM: BORL, www.borland.com), the global leader for Software Delivery Optimization, announced today that Cintas Corporation and Visa® International Asia Pacific have been chosen as its “Customers of the Year,” recognizing their leadership in software development and their innovative use of Borland’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solutions. Both companies, which have standardized on Borland for their software delivery efforts, are using Borland’s ALM products and process expertise to make development more disciplined, efficient, predictable and valuable to their business.

“Every year we select the customers who we believe exemplify leadership and innovation in software development – those organizations who recognize the business value of software and who are using it as a strategic differentiator,” said Rick Jackson, chief marketing officer at Borland. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to work with forward-thinking companies like Cintas Corporation and Visa International, and to honor them with this year’s Borland Customer of the Year awards.”

Cintas Corporation: Making IT a More Strategic Business Partner

Cintas Corporation designs, manufactures and implements corporate identity uniform programs, and provides additional products and services for approximately 700,000 businesses. Cintas, which operates 351 facilities in the U.S. and Canada, has grown for 36 consecutive years and posted fiscal 2005 sales of $3.07 billion. This impressive growth had created heavy demands on IT to meet the needs of the business. In addition, the company’s aggressive acquisition strategy resulted in peaks and valleys in demand for IT services.

In order to address these challenges, Cintas adopted J2EE and a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) as its standard for new IT development and chose Borland’s ALM products and Pillar Technology Group’s “Speed to Value” methodology to optimize the company’s application development processes. Cintas now uses the Borland ALM solution to manage requirements for new and existing IT projects, as well as for configuration management, change requests, developer tasking, and Web services development.

Borland’s ALM solution has since helped Cintas improve application quality, shorten development cycles for faster time-to-market, scale the company’s ability to work on multiple high-priority IT projects at once, and through the native tracking/audit capabilities in StarTeam, Cintas is using Borland to support Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Borland’s ALM products have also helped improve the amount of time Cintas spends on new development projects versus supporting existing applications. As a result, developers can now spend a majority of their time on valuable new development projects rather than on support existing systems. By implementing Borland’s ALM solution and Pillar Technology Group’s Speed to Value methodology, Cintas has been able to transform new IT project development into a strategic asset for their business.

Visa International Asia Pacific: Increasing Productivity by 30 Percent

Visa International is one of the world's most recognized names, providing the infrastructure that connects more than 22 million Visa acceptance locations and more than 700,000 ATMs worldwide. As one of its strategic business initiatives, Visa International sought to implement a process that would consolidate its many systems, standardize the way business consultants manage requirements with member banks, and better align with Visa IT teams that deliver all applications.

To deliver on this, the Visa International Asia Pacific software development organization designed and built a comprehensive system using Borland ALM solutions that now enables the team to automate processes and audit practices across the entire application lifecycle. As a result, the team has improved project traceability and accountability, and can more clearly initiate projects and communicate changes for applications both before and after they are put into production. Looking forward, the team expects Borland’s process expertise to help it gain even greater predictability and control over the application lifecycle.
