Met Office Selects Borland to Optimise Software Delivery

Borland Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) Solution to Help Met Office Deliver Software Faster, On Time and Within Budget

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Sep 12, 2006 : Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ:BORL), the global leader for Software Delivery Optimization (SDO), announced today that the Met Office has selected Borland’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution to enable faster delivery of Met Office weather and climate products and services for customers throughout the world.

The Met Office chose Borland’s solution to increase the organisation's visibility and control over all phases of the software delivery process, to ensure predictability and reliability of all IT projects, and ultimately deliver new technology products and services faster, on time and within budget. “Industry research shows that on average IT projects overran by some 84% in terms of time and 56% in terms of cost¹,” said Nigel Reed, 'Head of Technology Development', Met Office. “The Met Office recognises the importance of ensuring its own projects continue to lead to profitable business and do not become part of such statistics. This is why we moved to Borland to ensure our projects run efficiently and help us manage change in the process,” continued Reed.

A leading worldwide scientific organisation, the Met Office provides weather services that benefit the public and businesses worldwide. It required Borland to help it manage the development of weather-related applications including forecasts relating to aircraft safety and capture and storage of observations. Future applications are likely to include services to the public, leisure, retail, utilities and defence.

Borland secured the deal after being invited to tender for the Met Office’s MIDE (Met Office Integrated Development Environment) project, a wide-ranging IT drive to improve the provision of better and more accurate forecasts for the public and other customers. The project was set-up in recognition of the Met Office’s software development capability as a key element to deliver the organisation’s strategic aims.
