Borland Update from CEO Tod Nielsen
To Our Valued Customers,
It’s now been one year since I first took the helm at Borland, committing myself and this company to shaping the next generation of software delivery and to serving you, our customers.
Over the past year we’ve undergone a significant amount of change to position Borland as a global leader in the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) market, and to further our vision of transforming software delivery into a more manageable, efficient and predictable business process.
We are making great strides in delivering a world class ALM portfolio to all of you. Earlier this year we acquired Segue Software, one of the top testing and quality management vendors in the ALM space. Our new Silk products now fill a central role in our recently announced solution for Lifecycle Quality Management (LQM). LQM is one of four new comprehensive solutions that we offer to help companies master the most critical processes within the application lifecycle.
This year we also made clear our intention to separate the ALM and IDE (developer tools group) portions of our business. We have long stated that these two businesses are both important but very distinct. They serve different users, require different R&D teams, and have different sales and marketing models. Earlier this month we announced that we would form a separate, wholly-owned subsidiary for the Developer Tools Group called CodeGear, which will be solely responsible for advancing our award-winning IDE product lines. Although slightly different from our original divestiture plan announced in February, we feel this new model best serves our shareholders, employees, and most importantly, our mutual customers.
As you can see, this has been a big year for Borland. But even amidst this year of change, it’s clear that our investments in ALM are beginning to pay off in both customer loyalty and growth. We just announced Q3 earnings in which we posted a 91% increase in year over year ALM revenue. Our total revenues increased 21% over the previous year. This growth is allowing us to invest in the products that you depend on, and to develop new products and services that will truly shape that next generation of software delivery.
I’d like to personally thank you for your investment in Borland and your ongoing vote of confidence. I expect 2007 will be another exciting year for all of us as we work together to improve the way software is delivered.
We look forward to working closely with you in the coming year.
All the best,
Tod Nielsen
CEO, Borland Software
